Where is the outrage?

When at a tea party rally one individual has the bad taste to bring a sign that equates Obama to Hitler there is an overwhelming outrage. Tea Partier's are called every nasty name that one can think of; even a few made up names. So where is the outrage at the protesters in Wisconsin who brought signs to the capital suggesting that Scott Walker is equal to Hitler? What about the ones depicting him as equal to the Egyptian leader?

Where is the outrage? Since equating our leadership to dictators is supposed to be one of the worst things we as Americans' can do, where is the outrage?

The scary thing is these protesters for the most part do not know what they are protesting. Is Walker trying to outlaw or do away with Unions? No, what he is saying is that they shouldn't be allowed to have collective bargaining at the expense of the tax payers. These protesters are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Because someone told them too.

When you don't understand why or what you are protesting, how can you protest?

When protesters start screaming that Walker is trying to hurt the Police and Firefighters, they might want to understand what it is that Governor Walker is attempting to do. He wants to close up Wisconsin's $137 million budget deficit by limiting, not getting rid of, the collective bargaining rights of public employee unions. However, this only would include teachers, highway workers, and prison guards. Walker has already stated that Police and Firefighters would be exempt.

Essentially what Governor Walker is wanting to do is to put a hold on negotiations for retirement benefits, pensions, hours and working conditions. Affected employees would still be able to negotiate over wages.

What does Walker want to Change?

  • Currently most state workers in Wisconsin don’t pay anything into their pensions. The budget repair bill would require them to pay 5.8%.
  • Public employees would pay at least 12.5% of their health care costs. That’s more than double what they pay now, but it’s also still less than what most private employees pay for health care.
  • The bill would limit the bargaining power of unions concerning working conditions, and stop deducting union dues from worker paychecks.

The changes would potentially save the state around $300 million over the next two years to address a $3.6 billion budget shortfall.

While some of the larger Wisconsin School Districts are closed because of sick-outs, and staged walk-outs and the Wisconsin Democratic Party is Missing in Action, all of the heat is on Walker, he is the bad guy, he is the evil one. For wanting to balance the budget, to curb out of control spending. The outrage is directed via the mainstream media at him, yet they don't know really what they are outraged about.

The biggest issue of this whole bill is the idea that state workers will now be allowed to opt out of joining Unions. If you are currently in a Union and a State employee in Wisconsin with passage of Walker's Bill, you will have the freedom to leave the Union, and thus no longer have Union dues directly taken out of your paycheck. For some this could result in a thousand dollar savings a month, which will more than cover the small amount that Walker would like them to contribute to their pensions and their health care.

Private employees, would love a deal like this, yet the outrage is that Walker (Hitler) is trying to destroy Wisconsin. Perhaps, before we march with signs attributing him to Hitler we ought to stop and try to understand that he is wanting to do. Balance the Budget, and give the freedom of choice back to the workers, the choice of whether or not to join a Union.

Good hub. This is just a temper tantrum by a group of ignorant, greedy, entitled a-holes. I personally hope they charge the docs giving out bogus excuses with med malpractice and fraud!!

Walker deserves an award for sticking to his promise to the people who elected him. The protesters are selfish grownups behaving badly and so are the Dems who are in hiding. As for the hideous signs, the MSM didn't see them.

Pop: I read a blog yesterday that proclaimed that the hideous Tea Party sought out those people just to make the protesters look bad... so even when Protesters are making up signs that say Walker is akin to Hitler, it's still the Tea Party's fault. Thanks for the comment.

I e-mailed Walker this Morning and thanked him for his dedication and not backing down, even though I am not from Wisconsin, I figured he would want to see that America supports him.

If you would like to do the same his e-mail is govgeneral@wisconsin.gov

Thia man is my latest hero. It takes a huge amount of courage to do what he is doing. These entitlement babies need to grow up and get past it. Their free ride on the backs of a Union need to come to an end and they need to join the real working world. Great hub Rachel.

Thank you, Rachel, for attempting to be the voice of reason in a world that often seems to be mad - not just angry mad but insane mad. And for spelling out the genuine changes Gov. Walker is attempting to implement.

drbj: I believe in knowing what one is protesting, prior to protesting, I heard students say that they had no idea what they were doing there. Thanks for the comment.

Rachell the press will never tell the truth so it doesn't matter. Because now that the internet is around we can see union thugs and haters at work. They are being exposed now and that is a factor that is swelling the conservative revival in this country.

Rachell: Nicely done. You are very correct when regarding them as babies. This is an entirely different HUB, but the reality is they are in fact Marxist/Communist organizations. Of course you will be laughed at and called crazy. But look at the structure, what they do, how the Unions hold business and governments hostage. Talk to one of them and all you hear is how evil business is and how unjust it is that the CEO of a major corporation earns big paychecks. That money should be redistributed to the workers.

No, Unions are by nature communist in nature. There was a time in this country ( about 100 years ago ) where they were needed. Not anymore, now they are destroying businesses, forcing them to leave ( costing millions of jobs ), purchasing our politicians ( ie: Obama ) and breaking laws. I have zero respect for Unions. The workers are nothing more than puppets to the Thug Union Bosses.....Thumbs UP and thanks, well done...

Ken: Thanks for the comment. I worked many years for Wal-Mart, so you can imagine my stance on Unions. I will say this much I think the majority of the protesters are protesting the fact that under this new bill people will be allowed to opt out of Unions. That says something if people don't want to be in a Union maybe they aren't that great.

Those who compare Walker to Hitler have not one clue to history. They know nothing of Hitler other than the name. The absent democrats walked off the job because they couldn't have their way. If I had ever walked off my job I would have been fired.

Gov Walker is just the latest to follow suit that Gov Christie started....The outrage WAS heard in New Jersey, it WAS heard in WI...I think the outrage IS being heard...and good things are going to start happening in this coutnry.

thanks again, for putting the simple facts out there Rachel.

CMerritt: Thanks for the comment, maybe we can have a Christi/Walker ticket in 2012. That would be something worth voting for.

Hi Rachell, Very good hub. I personally am against unions. I feel that the teachers and democrats that aren't doing their job should NOT get paid, union or no union. When you are in a union you are just a follower. That only means that you need someone to take care of you and you can't make your own decisions. Kind of like my hub, "Followers Instead of Leaders". Well done. Greg
